Team Triumph had a strong showing, sending four athletes to the Issaquah Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, June 3. All four posted top 5 overall finishes, and Tracy Orcutt won the ladies race.
It was an absolutely beautiful day for this race, which had well over 800 participants. Derek Hill, Tracy Orcutt, Lisa Walker and Simone Van Rheenen all donned their team uniforms and went out in the elite waves.
The men's race was dominated from the start by Seattle resident Ben Collins, 23. Ben had a 1 minute lead in this short swim, which he had built to over three minutes by the time he dismounted his bike. Derek Hill had to fight his way back into the race 48th place out of the water, to finish in 5th place overall, 2nd in his Age Group, and only 3 seconds behind 4th place.
The ladies' race was much closer. First out of the water, as usual, was Cynthia Krass. Third out of the water was Team Triumph athlete Lisa Walker, who would go on to finish third overall.
By the time the ladies returned into T2, Simone Van Rheenen, sporting the Team Triumph uniform, had taken lead of the race. Close behind Simone was Cynthia, followed by Lisa Walker (all three visible in the photo). Not far behind them was Tracy Orcutt, who would go on to win the overall race. Lisa Walker finished third, winning her AG, and Simone finished 5th, 2nd in her AG. All in all, a very strong day for Team Triumph.
