Team JFT2 showed up in force to run the Mercer Island Rotary half marathon and 10K race on Saturday, March 25th. More than a dozen athletes proudly donned their new team hoodies as the group met for a warm, dry bathroom at the local McDonalds. Many team members set PRs on this drizzly spring day.
Michael Horntvedt was the first Team JFT2 athlete to cross the line with his very solid 1:31:54 finish. Michael placed 9th in his AG, and 84th for overall males. Coming in with a PR was Bruce Morgan, who finished strong with his 1:38:48 chip time, taking 24th in his AG and 170th OA. Not far behind Bruce was Jason Popp, with a 1:39:28, also a PR by about 20 minutes!
Jess Pollak came in at 1:41:24, a 13th place AG finish, followed by Shark Boy (team lawyer) Blake Istrup at 1:42:18. Tina Hall came in just ahead of Jill, and their times were 1:45:12 and 1:45:24, respectively. Jessica Cutler and Char Popp then finished with their times of 1:47:33 and 1:50:46. Elizabeth Green easily beat the 2 hour mark with her run of 1:54:54.
Finishing next for the team was Sharon Istrup, Lava Girl. Sharon's time was 2:05:06. Didi Cowen then finished with a 2:16:30. Julie McNamara-Dahl did the 10K, taking 24th in her AG with a time of 59:19.
We're expecting some race reports to come in. Jill posted hers in the forum (rough day for Jill). Right after the race (and after a shower for Jill), the team met for some Barbeque and a fond farewell to team mate Doug Thompson, who is about to move to Austin. Doug, we will miss you, and we'll see you again this summer in Penticton!
