Team JFT2 had a great showing at the Iron Pirates 10K Race for the Booty event on Sunday, March 18. The pictured competitors were, (Left to Right) Jessica Hayden-Spear, Tina Hall, Michael Horntvedt, Jess Pollak and Jessica Cutler, who races with Jill for Team Triumph Multisport. (Now that's a lot of Jessica's).
The Iron Pirates Ironman team put on this race series to raise money to help fight against Leukemia. The IronPirates is a team of about 20 triathletes that are targeting half or full Ironman distance tris this summer. It's a mixed level group with most being Ironman rookies but there are 6 or seven Ironman finishers on board.
The common bond is that all have participated in Team in Training programs and most are currently raising money for the Victoria Half Iron race in June. Quite a few grew into tris from participating in marathon programs with TNT and jumped on board when TNT started a triathlon program. There are team members who have beaten cancer, members whose loved ones have beaten cancer or are in the battle to survive blood cancers, and others who have been drawn to the cause for various reasons, a friend, a chance to help, etc.
Most on the team are coached by Lance Carter of Everyday Athlete (a TNT triathlon coach, a multiple Ironman finisher, and a participant in this years Ironman-CdA).
The race was quite a challenge. The trail was muddy and hilly, with some slippery bridges. This was no problem for the team, who spent much of the winter running through Bridle Trails, which has its own unique set of hazards.
We don't have all of the results, but Michael was the overall race winner, and Jess Pollak came in second for the women, and fourth overall.
Congratulations to the entire team for their strong finish and for supporting the Iron Pirates' endeavor to raise money for this cause. Team JFT2 would like to continue to support local events and organizations, to raise money and awareness for causes such as this.
The team JFT Race Support (Tom) was on hand to take some photos. Be sure to check them out here.
